John H. Benson age 86 of New Castle passed away Tuesday March 16, 2010 at Glen Oaks Health Campus.
He was born March 22, 1923 in Frenchburg, Kentucky the son of the late Will and Lucrieta Spencer Benson. He was decorated WWII veteran. He received a Campaign Ribbon with Silver Star, he won the Purple Heart 3 times and the Bronze Star. He was married 63 years to Betty Dickerson Benson, he was self employed at Dickerson’s Transfer, J and J Logging, Benson Upholstery, Benson Wrecker Service for 15 years and he made Porch Swings after he retired.
Survivors include his wife Betty, son Steve (wife Cheryl) Benson of New Castle, granddaughter Baily Benson Gula (husband Rev. Damien Gula) of Magnolia Springs, Alabama. Sister Faye of Ft. Wayne. He also has a large extended family that consists of several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Ben, Clinton and William, 5 sisters Dorthula, Christina, Myrtle, Betty, Winnie.
Services will be Saturday March 20, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Marcum Community Funeral Home. Rev. Dennis Kinser will be officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
