Athel Harmon age 90 of New Castle went to meet his Savior Thursday morning August 27, 2009 at the V. A Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born January 12, 1919 to Elmer and Cloda B. Tarter Harmon in Russell County, Kentucky.
He attended New Castle Schools. Served our Country in WWII South Pacific Theater receiving Five Bronze Stars for his valor. He was also a lifetime member of VFW. Athel worked as a Cab Driver for Yellow Cab Co., owned by his brother Omrie for several years then left for Checker Cab Co. in San Bernadino, Ca., for over 30 years.
He enjoyed fishing with his father and brothers, hunting, working on cars and going to the junkyard with brothers Cecil and Omrie. Dancing was also one of his favorite past times acquiring the nickname "Silver Fox".
Survivors included one sister Irene Crone, two brothers Omrie (Geraldine) and Cecil Harmon all of New Castle. Several nieces, and nephews who all surrounded him with love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arlen, Clyde and Gene.
Athel was a large part of all of our lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be Monday August 31, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Marcum Community Funeral Home. Rev. Lynn Furrow will be officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 12-2 PM prior to service on Monday. Online condolences may be made at www.marcumfuneralhome.com
