Charles "Tink" W. Jones Jr. age 80 of Springport passed away Monday November 29, 2010 at Hendricks Regional Health.
He was born April 4, 1930 the son of the late Charles W. Sr and Ruby Judd Jones. He graduated from New Castle High School in 1948 where he played football. He was on the All-State Team his senior year. Following graduation he played for Arkansas Razorbacks, Charlie then enlisted in the Air Force spending a good deal of time stationed in Alaska. He was interested in helping others anyway he could. Locally he was active in the United Way, construction of the Fun Park and the Red Cross. Also was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He also participated in many disaster relief missions with the Red Cross throughout the U.S and Virgin Islands. He was the "Fix-It Man" no matter where he was. He loved the out doors and animals. Charlie was in his element when he was camping or fishing. He always had a variety of animals around including all sorts of birds and any animal that may have been injured the he found. Charlie loved to travel. He and Ruth often included their children or grandchildren in their adventures. They visited all 50 states, Canada and Europe. Charlie and Ruth also logged many, many miles on their vehicles traveling to family sporting and music events. In his later years he enjoyed tracing his family tree through the Henry County Genealogy Society.
Survivors include his daughters Marilyn (husband Mike) Horan and Barb (Dan) Snodgrass, 4 grandchildren Justin and Corrie Horan, Kyle (Megan) Westrick, Colton Snodgrass and great grandchild Gabe.
Preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, sister Marilyn Jean and brother James Jones.
There will be a memorial service Saturday December 4, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Marcum Community Funeral Home. There will be a visitation from 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM prior to service Saturday.
