Cordell Guffey age 87 of New Castle passed away Friday December 25, 2009 at the Hickory Creek Nursing Home.
He was born October 21, 1922 in Clinton County, Kentucky the son of the late Rollin and Hadia Neal Guffey. He worked at Diamond Container for 15 years, also was a Foster Grandparent. He was in the U.S Army and a member of the American Legion and Walnut Grove Methodist Church in Clinton County, Kentucky.
He is survived by 4 children Jodi Rains of Albany, Kentucky, Roland Guffey of Lexington, Kentucky, Veta (Melvin) Daniel of Albany, Kentucky and Rita (Calvin) Powell of Albany, Kentucky, 2 step children Frankie (Bill) MeLean of Dayton, OH, Gene (Naomi) Pierce of Louisville, Kentucky. 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Brothers Odell Guffey and Ezra (Jenny) Smith. Sisters Mary Akins and Barbara (Herman) Riggs all of New Castle.
Preceded in death by his wife: Idell Pierce Guffey, parents, brothers: Russell Guffey, Dudley Guffey, Dick Guffey. Step-child: Yvonne Pierce.
Services will be Tuesday December 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Marcum Community Funeral Home. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery Legion Hill. Friends may call 4-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.marcumfuneralhome.com
There will be military rites given by the VFW and American Legion.
