Norma S. Atkins age 86 of New Castle went to be with the Lord and Master Thursday morning January 14, 2010 at Glen Oaks Health Campus.
She was born December 22, 1923 in Eubank, Kentucky the daughter of the late Cella and Ella Robinson Singleton. She worked at Chrysler Corporation for 24 years in Administrative Offices. She was previously a 60 year member of First Baptist Church in New Castle and was presently a member of Grace Baptist Church of New Castle. Norma was a 1941 graduate of New Castle High School. She was awarded a Scholarship to Indiana Business College, where she graduated. She was a member of the Senior Saints of Grace Baptist and was a charter member of the Sutton Strutters Square Dancing Club. Avid campers, she and her husband loved to tour in their camping trailer and traveled to most of the States.
Survivors include her children: daughter Jean Johnson, Peru; Michael (Sharon) Atkins, New Castle; James (Starlynn) Atkins, Summerville, South Carolina; brother Raymond (Helen) Singleton, New Castle; 10 grandchildren: Gerri (Mark) Mclver and Beth Jackson of Kokomo, Tracy Jo (Todd) Klotz and Gretchen (Andrew) Cobb of New Castle, Michael J. (Mary Lou) Atkins Jr. of Greenwood, IN., David (Amy) Jackson of Indianapolis, Jennifer (Micah) Hudson of Summerville, South Carolina, James Atkins Jr. of Muncie. Two step-grandchildren: Tracy Weisheit of Ladson, South Carolina, Fred (Missy) Weisheit of Cadiz, IN. There are 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Preceded in death by her husband Earl Atkins (2002), son Earl Atkins Jr., granddaughter Shawn Smith, sister Jean Davidson, stepfather Mace Cline, son in law Sam Johnson, great grandson Matthew Jackson, step sister Wilma Imel and step brother David Cline.
There will be a celebration of life service on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church. Rev. Denny Neal will be officiating. Marcum Community Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.marcumfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers the family request that you send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association with envelopes available at the service.
