Helen Roth Hudson age 91 of Richmond and formerly of Hagerstown passed away Sunday September 21, 2014 at the Friends Fellowship in Richmond.
She was born December 26, 1923 in Richmond, Indiana the daughter of the late Raymond and Bessie Brown Roth. She was married to the late Dr. Loy L. Hudson of Richmond for 64 years. Surviving are her two children, Debra L. of Houston Texas, and James and Shawn Hudson of Herron, Montana, she was a loving grandmother to three granddaughters, Angela Pierce, Amy Miller, Chandra Garret, and 8 great grandchildren, and sister, Betty Anderson of Bloomington, Indiana.
She had a strong passion for historical preservation of lineage and antiquities. She began her experience in 1970 when she entered the Nathaniel Foote Chapter of the Colonial Dames and then went on to become the founder the first chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century-Edward Pearson Chapter in Hagerstown, Indiana in 1973, and held several offices during that time. Serving as President General of The National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor, 1997-1999, and also held multiple offices including Chapter and State Regent in the National Association Daughters of the American Colonists. She was also involved in the DAR-Daughters of the American Revolution, NACAC-National Association of the Children of the American Colonists, National Gavel Society, Continental society daughters of Indian wars and national society of New England women
She championed the research and the markings of multiple historical sites with historical markers, throughout Indiana and the Midwest. She was a strong advocate for our war veterans, organizing celebrations to commemorate their service for our country. She was an accomplished genealogist, publishing several books documenting the lineage of different families.
The graveside service will be held on Saturday October 11, 2014 at 2:30 pm at West Lawn Cemetery in Hagerstown. Marcum Community Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
